| Sales decreased from the preceding year as demand for thick steel plates for shipbuilding and building construction declined and their selling prices also declined. Operating loss is posted as sales decreased due to the economic recession and selling prices were lowered before inventory of high-priced imported materials was exhausted. Overseas subsidiary Ceara Steel S.A. was liquidated as gas suppliers raised prices excessively while the international energy environment has changed drastically. |
| Sales will increase as steed demand and selling prices will rise and new thick plate mill in Dangjin will start operation while the economy will recover in the latter half. Profit growth will be limited with depreciation expenses of the newly built mill though selling prices will rise while slab prices will decline. Loss from equity investment will decrease as performance will improve while borrowings will be repaid by subsidiary Union Steel with proceeds from sale of its land. |
